Introducing our NEW Community Garden!
October 2024 saw the unofficial launch of the Stroud Community Garden at our first ever community bulb‑planting event. Volunteers of all ages turned out to help plant bulbs ready for the spring. Thank you to Stroud Parish Council, who kindly donated funds to cover the cost of the plants. Afterwards, everyone was invited to share their ideas for the garden over coffee and cake.
Suggestions included:
Vegetable beds for the community to grow fruit and vegetables
A bird‑watching area
Bug hotels
A chatting bench — a seat that signals you’re happy to socialise
A flax project so we can spin and weave our own linen
A place to sit and watch the flowers grow
The Trustees were so impressed by the enthusiasm of the volunteers that the idea of a Community Garden for the village was born.
Volunteers now include several Trustees — Charlie, Oliver and Glen — along with fellow local residents Dave and Philip. A plan was formed to establish a rota for mowing and weeding the garden, and work has begun on shaping the longer‑term vision for the space.
Keep up with all the latest happenings in the garden via our new Community Garden blog, Facebook page, and the Parish Newsletter. We’re always delighted to welcome new volunteers of any age or experience. If you’d like to join in, just get in touch with the Hall Manager.
