Why Support the Hall
Without local support, community buildings like our Village Hall risk disappearing — and with them, the activities, services and sense of belonging that so many people rely on. Even if you don’t use the hall yourself, community spaces offer something increasingly rare: a place to meet people you might never otherwise cross paths with, feel rooted in your area and experience genuine community.
Action Hampshire — a charity supporting voluntary, community and social enterprises across the county — recently highlighted how spaces like ours help deliver the NHS’s Five Steps to Mental Wellbeing:
- Connection — An inclusive place to meet others, whether at community events or through the many clubs and classes held at the hall. This is particularly important for those who may be more at risk of loneliness or find travel difficult, such as new parents and elderly people or those experiencing health challenges.
- Keep learning — Groups such as the Stroud Evening WI and the monthly Craft Club offer opportunities to learn new skills and try something different.
- Be active — From yoga and Pilates to weights and general fitness, there’s a class for every ability, all led by committed local instructors.
- Take notice — Our Community Garden provides a peaceful space to enjoy nature and the changing seasons.
- Give back — Volunteering boosts wellbeing by improving mood, building meaningful connections and offering a sense of purpose. There are many ways to get involved — from becoming a Trustee to helping in the garden or supporting events.

Our long‑term goal is for the hall to be financially self‑sufficient through bookings, without relying on grants. However, there will always be additional costs — from essential repairs to improvements that make the space even better for everyone. This is where fundraising plays a vital role.
