A RATHER REGAL AFTERNOON IN STROUD VILLAGE HALL
It turns out that most members of the SVHARA social committee are pretty keen scone bakers! Which proved very useful as we decided to squeeze one final coronation celebration in on Monday afternoon, marking the end of a rather lovely and patriotic long weekend. Not only were there scones with all the required lashings, there was also a plethora of STUNNING Entries into the Coronation bake off competition. A last-minute amendment had to be made to the categories as the quality of the 12 year olds bakes were, quite simply, GBBO worthy! Our winnners were Isaberlla Gent (under 10s), Leila Calverd (10+) and speical mention to Louisa Howe – our only adult entry but the absolute showstopper of a cake!
The rain didn’t dampen our spirits; we taped out a makeshift runway (thin k ‘fashion parade’ rather than Heathrow) in the middle of the hall, perfect for our ‘design a coronation crown’ competition. Each crown was modelled down the runway for all to see. Well done to Pip and Elodie for their winning entries. Despite the sun being stubborn, we still had delicious ice cream provided by Stroud local, Ruben Calverd (aka ‘The Petersfield Ice Cream Company’). He will also be at the Revels festival this year! The village hall buzzed with music, chatter and children as they crafted and played, and whilst we weren’t counting exactly there were between 100/120 individuals enjoying the occasion.
So, the flags and bunting may have been taken down, the Stone of Scone returned to Scotland, and the social committee now turn their focus to the Stroud Revels on July 29th. Grab your tickets now from the village hall website as we often sell out. We hope to see you there!
